Travel guide

YourcompleteguidetoPortBarton,Palawan

Port Barton is what El Nido used to be 15 years ago — a sleepy fishing village on Palawan's west coast with no big resorts, no nightclubs, no rush. Travelers who find Port Barton often skip El Nido entirely. The bay is dotted with empty white-sand islands, the snorkeling is some of the best in Palawan, and sea turtle encounters are practically guaranteed at the marked sanctuary spots.

Day tours are organized as Tour A (most popular — turtles, Twin Reef, Exotic Island), Tour B (German Island, Paradise) and a combined version. Boats are smaller than in El Nido, groups are smaller, and tour operators stick to a daily rotation that prevents overcrowding.

There's no airport — you arrive by a 3.5 hour van from Puerto Princesa. The town has a single main road, beachfront restaurants serving fresh fish, and a slowly growing collection of boutique guesthouses. Stay 2–3 nights to truly switch off.

Why travelers love Port Barton

  • Snorkel with sea turtles at the marked sanctuary
  • Empty starfish sandbars and Exotic Island lunch stops
  • Far fewer boats and crowds than El Nido
  • Authentic fishing village vibe, walkable beachfront
  • Spectacular west-coast sunsets at Barton Bistro beanbags
  • Affordable — half the cost of El Nido for similar tours
