Travel guide
Balabac is the wildest, most remote and most photographed corner of Palawan — a group of 31 islands at the southernmost tip of the province, closer to Borneo than to Manila. There are no resorts, no luxury hotels and barely any signal. What there is: pink-tinted sand at Patawan and Punta Sebaring, vanishing sandbars that disappear at high tide, and night skies so dark the Milky Way burns overhead.
Balabac is only accessible as a multi-day expedition. From Puerto Princesa it's a 6-hour van to Rio Tuba, an early-morning boat to Balabac town, then daily island hops by bangka. Most travelers join a 3D2N, 4D3N or 5D4N expedition with set itineraries covering Onuk, Candaraman, Mansalangan and Sibaring islands. Onuk Island — privately owned by the mayor — requires a special permit and overnight stay; we handle that for you.
This isn't a vacation in the traditional sense — accommodations are basic homestays and tent camping, food is fresh-caught grilled fish, and the days are long. But for travelers chasing untouched Palawan, Balabac is unforgettable.
